*The 2021-2022 School year welcomes Nursery to our Pre-k - 1st Grade Italian Immersion Curriculum.
We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Students volunteer to bring in items or slideshows that represent Hispanic language, food, traditions, and famous persons. We will identify their origins on the World Map and Make Cross-Curricular Connections with our items!
Rosetta Stone Summer Practice Challenge was a Success! Over 150+ participants Students, Grades 3-8, each practiced from 5 min - over 40+hours!!! Our top 10 practicers all achieved 4 hours or more! Congratulations!
Summer Language Explorers Students shared items, films, commercials, music, books, products, artwork containing languages other than English, and especially those related to the language that they study.
We will continue to share these items in class throughout the year!
Language Course Descriptions N-8
Italian Immersion Nursery (fall 2021), Prek-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade participate in an Italian immersion experience 1-2x a week. Kindergarten and 1st Grade prepare 3 presentations per year for our Christmas, Winter, and Spring Concerts.
Students 2nd-5th - Exploratory Language 1x a week Students engage in classroom speaking and writing activities in all languages and access the Rosetta Stone Program in the language of their choice. Students are encouraged to log in from home via PC or Mobile all for Tablet and apple devices. Incentives and prizes will be given throughout the year for home practice. Students receive small written weekly assignments and are encouraged to log on from home if possible. Language Choice: For continuity from K and 1st Grade Italian immersion courses, Italian for 2nd graders is encouraged but not required. Students in the younger grades are welcome to explore new languages from year to year and may benefit greatly from continuing in one language over the course of several years!
Students 6th-8th - Focused Language 2x a week - Jr. High & High School Preparation Students engage in linguistic and grammar focus activities in all languages as well as small group practicum in individual languages. In the language of their choice, students will access the Rosetta Stone Program in class and make a commitment to log on from home a minimum of 2x a week. Consistent written and online HW will be given. Students are assessed on Participation, Tests, Quizzes, Projects, Speaking and Rosetta Stone Practice and Proficiency. Incentives and prizes will be given throughout the year. Students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to choose one language for their final three years of study. _______

HW and Grading Students grades 2-5 have weekly HW assignments but do not receive formal assessments or grades. Students grades 6-8 have formal assessments and receive report card grades for Language. Students grades 6-8* log on 2x a week from home and have bi-weekly HW assignments. *To properly benefit from the JHS Prep Program students will be challenged with more detailed activities and should plan review materials each night over the course of the school week. It is recommended that parents download the Google Classroom APP and GMAIL APP to their phones. Have students sign in to both using their school username and password. You may do this with multiple students. This allows parents to view all assignments, teacher correspondence, and Google Classroom grades. Parents should also request or accept the invitation to be added as a Google Classroom Guardian by which they may elect to receive daily or weekly updates on their student's progress. If have not received such an email please contact your child's teacher to be added.
Google Classroom Links Students Grades 2-8 should refer to the Google Classroom Classwork Tab for assignment details prior to each class. Google Classrooms also exist for grades K-1 and will provide additional learning resources to students.
*You may request to be added as a guardian on your child's google classroom account and to receive email updates on assignments.
Grades 5-8* have access to an additional Cultural Enrichment Class Page for their specific language of study. Activities may be selected based on the student's interests and have no due date. *Grades 7-8 are asked to complete several enrichment postings per trimester. Grade 6 may use these as Extra Credit.
