Seussical was amazing!  We had a full house each night and our cast, crew and director received standing ovations!  Ms. O'Neil and her cast and crew really outdid themselves in this first production of the Notre Dame Drama Club.  Many thanks are in order to those parents who helped during rehearsals and during the shows.  We can't wait until next year!

This is the year that our Pope that has proclaimed a Year of Faith.  Catholics are called to renew their commitment to their faith.  The Year of Faith is a time to reflect on the gift of our faith.  We should deepen our understanding and knowledge of the teachings of the church.  We can read, reflect and pray the Scriptures as well as nourishing and strengthening our faith through the Holy Eucharist.  It is also a wonderful opportunity to "open the door of faith" for others.  Visit the website below for further information.

Notre Dame School e` stata fortunata!
I am delighted to announce that, due to the efforts of one of our school parents, Mrs. Daniela Valle, we have been awarded a grant from the Italian Consulate to begin the teaching of Italian in our school! Classes for children in Kindergarten and Grade 1 will be during the day.
Children in Grades 2 and 3 will be offered the opportunity to learn Italian after school.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre recognizes that background information including criminal history record checks are a critical element in ensuring the safety of children and protecting them from inappropriate actions or behaviors of others.

All potential volunteers of Notre Dame School must complete a background check. In addition, volunteers must attend a Virtus training session. If you participate in Virtus at a site other than Notre Dame, please send to the school office a copy of the attendance certificate.

To summarize, no parent can volunteer with the students in any capacity without submitting a background check and attending Virtus training.

Please check www.virtus.org for a list of training sessions being held in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. You must register online to attend a workshop.

If you are interested in After-Care next year, please print out, complete and return the application and parent aggreement which can be found in the resource section.  Please send all forms and pictures to the attention of Mrs. Duffy to the school office.  All forms and pictures must be submitted for the application to be complete.  The registration fee is $50 per family.

Our Video Conference Center continues to be a busy place this year!  Our pre-K students enjoyed a visit to some Arctic animals at the Buffalo Zoo to highlight their recent unit. They also participated in a conference about Dinosaurs.   Our students were privileged to be a part of a nation-wide video-conference with Mrs. Barbara Bush.  One of our students, Emma Rasheed, was selected to ask Mrs. Bush a question!  Our 8th graders participated in a conference entirely in Spanish.  They also participated in a webinar highlighting the contributions of African-Americans during WWII.  Grade 6 scheduled a conference on the Titanic and Grade 5 participated in a conference on ecosystems.  Grade 7 will participate in a conference on Spanish Art from the Smithsonian Institution and K will learn about the life cycle of butterflies.  Many other conferences are planned--please join us when your child has a conference scheduled.  Our students and teachers are busy adding to their knowledge through these interactions.

Notre Dame School is on the forefront of technology.  Our students are using iPads for research as well as other classroom activities.  The number of educational apps is astounding and our teachers and students are certainly enjoying this technology.  Thanks to the "Stand-Up" Portion of our Auction, we were able to purchase additional iPads, bringing the total number to thirty-two!  Our building is wireless, so students are able to use the laptop carts and iPads in their classrooms!

From the Principal

Tthings are very busy in the hallways of Notre Dame School! The boys and girls are busy with their classes and learning new things.  Our enrollment is healthy.  We have more than 440 students this year, with two sections of each grade.  Our smallest citizens are enjoying life at Notre Dame.  They are using the playgrounds, having lunch in the cafeteria and learning to take turns.  Many thanks to those families who recommended Notre Dame School to a friend or neighbor.

Please keep our Early Childhood program in mind.  Our registration for both our Pre-K and Nursery program is healthy, with PreK soon to be closed.  Perhaps your friend or neighbor is looking around for a wonderful Pre-K or Nursery  program.  Inquiries may be directed to our school office.

Our students enjoy the latest in technology--we currently have 32 iPads in use.  Students enjoy video conferences which enhance their understanding of their classroom curriculum.  A popular destination is the Buffalo Zoo, along with many museums and Science Centers. Grade 7 viewed Sacred Art and learned about the Lewis and Clark expedition, while Grade 8 enjoyed conferences on both World Wars I and II in the spring.  With the weather changing, teachers have begun to plan class trips and the children are excited to be playing outside in the playgrounds!  Grade 6 traveled to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and K and Grade 1 will visit the Queens Farm.  Grade 5 visited the Central Park Zoo and all classes are eagerly anticipating the annual school picnic!

Remember--wouldn't it be terrific if every family brought a family?

God's blessings on you and your family!

Thank you for choosing Notre Dame School.
